Router/Modem Connectivity: The most common scenario—connecting enterprise routers (DTE) to WAN modems, CSU/DSU (Channel Service Unit/Data Service Unit), or TA (Terminal Adapter) (all DCE devices). It enables access to leased lines (e.g., T1/E1, fractional T1), Frame Relay, or X.25 networks, which were once the backbone of enterprise inter-office communication.
Example: A manufacturing plant’s central office router uses a V.35 cable to connect to a CSU/DSU, accessing a T1 leased line to transmit production data to a regional branch.
Telecom Infrastructure: Early telecom switches, base station controllers (BSCs), and network access servers (NAS) used V.35 connectors to interface with serial communication modules, supporting data and voice signal transmission.
2. Industrial Automation & Control Systems
Due to its robustness, stable transmission, and resistance to electromagnetic interference (EMI), the V.35 connector is widely adopted in industrial environments requiring long-distance, reliable serial communication:
PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) Communication: Connecting PLCs to remote I/O modules, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), or industrial computers (IPC) in scenarios where Ethernet is not feasible (e.g., legacy systems, harsh electromagnetic environments).
Example: In a printing/packaging production line, a PLC uses a V.35 interface to connect to a remote temperature sensor or pressure transmitter, transmitting real-time process data for quality control.
SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) Systems: Used in energy (power grids, oil/gas pipelines), water treatment, and transportation (railway signaling) to connect remote terminal units (RTUs) to SCADA masters. The V.35’s long cable support (up to 15 meters for standard cables, longer with repeaters) and anti-interference capabilities suit outdoor/industrial harsh conditions.
Legacy Industrial Equipment: Older CNC machines, robotic arms, and production line controllers often retain V.35 ports for data transmission or programming, as industrial systems prioritize stability over frequent upgrades.
