D-SUB Ribbon Connector IDC Crimping Type Ribbon 37Pin DB Female Connector D-type connectors most commonly consist of two and sometimes more parallel rows of connections. The connectors feature a D-format metal shell that provides mechanical strength and limited electromagnetic screening. The metal shells of the plug and socket make contact to enhance screening effectiveness. Panel mounting connectors are typically secured to the panel using nuts with additional threading that allows the mating connector to be secured, preventing it from working loose. Free connectors can have backshells that provide screening and can be connected to the cable screen, or if plastic, they provide protection and strain relief for the cable. The pins in common connector types with two rows of pins (9, 15, 25, and 37 way) are spaced approximately 0.108 inch (2.74 mm) apart with rows spaced 0.112 inch (2.84 mm) apart. Higher pin counts and densities can be achieved using additional rows of pins.
